As Bar & Bat Mitzvah students prepare for their big day, one of the lessons they learn is the responsibility of Tzedakah. JewishColumbus provides a program for all Bar & Bat Mitzvahs that is focused on this important Jewish value.
B’nai Tzedek Funds can be opened with an initial family contribution of $125 (or more) – this typically comes from Bar/Bat Mitzvah gifts. Through the generosity of Mitzi & Henry (z”l) Saeman, the initial family contribution is supplemented with a contribution of $250. In addition, JewishColumbus provides a contribution of $125.
This innovative program is one way JewishColumbus invests in local teens by providing tools designed to encourage a life-long commitment to Tzedakah. Teens make contributions from their funds to charities of their personal choice. B’nai Tzedek works like their own personal charitable checkbook. Teens become active donors to causes and organizations they believe in and learn how to make giving decisions to “repair the world.” The practice of individual philanthropic giving is Tzedakah at its best.
